This is basically a spreadsheet of all the information I gathered in the beginning of my journey.
Original Preliminary Research, Stats, and Hypothesis
Background: The original work is centered around the idea that individual tendencies can attribute to particular eating disorders or can make some more prone to a specific pattern of eating and/or relationship development with food. My population of 50 Liberty High School students have taken the same Enneagram test provided for them, and with their scores I will move forward by surveying them with a questionnaire carefully articulated to address basic information, as well as, integration of tests such as EAT (Eating Attitude Test), EDI (Eating Disorder Inventory), NEDA screening exam, and SCOFF questions to assess the quality of their nutritional health, as well as, tendencies they have acquired through development. I will use the results of the questionnaire and compare the types per responses to try and identify a correlation between the two. Once this research is completed and translated, I will use the information to develop my Original work. I plan to create a program with information to attach to the Enneagram’s intricate information.
Identified Treatments: In the Original work does not include a treatment because this is not an experiment, rather it is a survey.
Identified Variables: In the Original work variables in the research include: Enneagram’s different types, age, race, sex, and previous medical conditions of subjects in the sample. These variable lead to a variance in my statistics (not yet calculated), however are all accounted for in the questionnaire. The independent variable is the type of the person. The dependent variable is the level of intensity towards disordered eating on average (based on the results of my questionnaire). Another statistic to calculate can include the independent variable, Enneagram type, with a dependent variable type of disordered eating tendency on average. Finally, I can categorize the respondents by class due to weight, race, height, sex, etc and compare those variables to the results of the personality and/or eating disorder screening exams.
Population/Sample: I am not using an entire population. The population is Liberty High School students. Instead I am evaluating the sample of Liberty High School with a sample size of 50 students. The sample is 50 students at Liberty High School between the ages of 15-18 years old. This sample is representative of the population because despite the fact that the majority is female responses their are also male representation, as well as, extends to all age ranges within the entire schools population.
Confounding Variables: A large confounding variable for my research is the fact that my sample is not a sample of people with eating disorders. However, the purpose of my survey and research is to bring forth a final project that provides a resource for individuals to go to that can help them understand what it truly does for them specifically. I believe this format will not only educate people on the style of eating verses what they are actually eating, but also and more importantly presents it in a way that hits home for a person which will boost morale, motivate, and enlighten a person more than any trend diet can.
